Dermatology is the branch of medicine that deals with the health of the skin, mucous membranes and skin adnexa (hair, nails, sweat and sebaceous glands). At Life Clinic, our team of experienced dermatologists offers comprehensive dermatology examinations for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of skin conditions.
The dermatology examination is a key time for skin health care. During the examination, the dermatologist carefully examines the patient's skin and mucous membranes, looking for any lesions, abnormalities, or signs of dermatologic disease. Through the history and objective examination, the dermatologist can make an accurate diagnosis and propose the most appropriate treatment for each specific condition.
Dermatologic conditions that can be detected and treated during an examination include:
In addition, during the dermatological examination, the dermatologist can provide personalized advice on skin care, hygiene, and sun protection to maintain healthy skin and prevent future problems.
Mole mapping is a specialized service offered by Life Clinic that is of great importance in the prevention and early detection of melanoma and other skin cancers.
Mole mapping is a noninvasive technique for examining moles on the skin surface in detail, using an instrument called a videodermatoscope. This device combines a high-resolution camera with an optical magnification system, allowing the dermatologist to visualize morphological features of moles that would not be visible to the naked eye.
During mapping, the dermatologist captures digital images of all moles on the patient's body. These images are then stored in a database, creating a true "map" of the patient's moles. At subsequent visits, the dermatologist can compare the new images with previous ones, monitoring any changes in mole shape, color, or size over time.
Melanoma is the most aggressive of skin cancers, and its incidence is steadily increasing. However, if diagnosed early, melanoma is highly curable. That is why mole mapping plays a key role in the prevention and early detection of this cancer.
By mapping moles, the dermatologist can identify "suspicious" moles, that is, those that have atypical features or have changed over time. These moles can be monitored more closely or, if necessary, surgically removed for histologic examination.
Mole mapping is particularly indicated for patients with numerous moles, atypical moles, or a family history of melanoma. However, everyone can benefit from this service as part of a skin cancer prevention strategy.
The CO2 laser emits in beam of "light" at 10,600 nm, which is easily absorbed by water. Water accounts for more than 80 percent of the skin's composition.
Non-ablative CO2 laser
The non-ablative CO2 laser works by delivering laser energy in a pattern of small dots or close columns, leaving untreated areas of skin between them. With the non-ablative laser, the laser energy, which is absorbed by water in the skin, causes controlled damage to the deeper levels of the skin, without damaging the surface. In doing so, the underlying layers of the skin (dermis) are heated without damaging the surface (epidermis). This creates a collagen production response. Non-ablative CO2 lasers are typically used for less severe skin conditions, Recovery time is shorter, more treatments may be needed to achieve the desired results.
Ablative CO2 laser
The ablative CO2 laser works by emitting laser energy in a continuous beam. The near complete absorption of the laser by the tissues, produces rapid heating resulting in vaporization of intracellular water and tissue ablation. The ablative laser penetrates the skin, heats and causes vaporization of water molecules within it. This vaporization, in turn, causestissue ablation (tissue removal).
Indications of CO2 laser
The CO2 laser is a versatile device in dermatology, used to treat a variety of skin conditions. Here are some of the conditions that the CO2 laser can address, organized by type of problem:
The CO2 laser can also be used for other types of medical and surgical conditions and specialties. It can also be used by the general surgeon, proctologist, gynecologist, cosmetic or plastic surgeon, and maxillofacial surgeon.
The Flow-chart for the use of Co2 Laser includes some mandatory steps such as:
At Life Clinic, we offer a wide range of dermatological services for skin health care:
During the dermatological examination, our dermatologist will perform a complete examination of the skin and mucous membranes, evaluating any lesions or abnormalities. Based on the history and objective examination, the dermatologist will formulate a diagnosis and propose an individualized treatment plan.
Mole mapping with a videodermatoscope is a specialized service offered by Life Clinic for the prevention and early detection of skin cancers, particularly melanoma. During mapping, the dermatologist captures high-resolution digital images of all moles on the patient's body, creating a "map" that can be used to monitor any changes over time.
If suspicious moles or neoformations are identified during the dermatologic examination, our dermatologist can perform a skin biopsy orexcision for diagnostic purposes, with subsequent histologic examination. These procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, under local anesthesia, with rapid postoperative recovery.
For the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (common baldness), Life Clinic offers outpatient regenerative medicine treatments with PRP (platelet-rich plasma). PRP, obtained from the patient's own blood, contains growth factors that stimulate regeneration of hair follicles, promoting hair regrowth.
In addition to dermatologic examinations and outpatient treatments, Life Clinic also offers dermatosurgery services for the removal of moles and skin neoformations, both benign and malignant. Our dermatologist, Dr. Vailati, is an expert in dermatosurgery and uses state-of-the-art techniques to ensure optimal aesthetic results and rapid healing.
