Dr. Maria Rosa Fratus

Orthoptist

Dr. Fratus Maria Rosa is an orthoptist at Life Clinic.

In 1984, he received a degree in Orthoptics and Ophthalmic Care from the University of Parma.

In 2007 he obtained a master's degree in Visuoposturology from La Sapienza University of Rome.

Dr. Fratus has practiced as an orthoptist and ophthalmology assistant for more than 30 years at Pope John XXIII Hospital.

He mainly deals with orthoptic and visuopostural evaluations, which aim to diagnose or rule out the presence of abnormalities affecting the neuromuscular apparatus of the eye.

During the visit, Dr. Fratus assesses:

- motility, eye alignment, and convergence, with the aim of detecting possible presence of strabismus;

- sensory state and stereopsis (ability to perceive depth and see three-dimensionally);

- The possible abnormal position of the head (ocular torticollis);

- visual acuity in each eye and the possible presence of lazy eye (amblyopia).

In pediatric age, orthoptic examination aims to:

  • identify early the presence of strabismus or special conditions that may lead to amblyopia (lazy eye);
  • Assessing whether there are any convergence deficits;
  • To study eye movements from a qualitative point of view in order to improve and train visual skills (DSA - Specific Learning Disorders)

Orthoptic evaluation, together with an eye examination, allows for a complete framing for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment choice.

His performance:

  • Orthoptic evaluation
