Dr. Lucca deals mainly with cardiac arrhythmias, that is, the alterations in heart rhythm either in terms of bradycardia (slow heart rate) or tachycardia (increased heart rate), beat irregularities, or to detect and follow over time conditions in which a given heart disease carries a higher risk that an arrhythmia, even a severe one, may occur in the future.
The spectrum of arrhythmias is broad, and evaluation always begins with an ECG. There are benign arrhythmias that are bothersome but pose no risk (e.g., most extrasystoles); arrhythmias that merit drug or nonpharmacologic therapy (e.g., transcatheter ablation); and arrhythmias that require pacemaker implantation that helps the heart maintain a correct heart rate when the spontaneous rate is too slow.
Through careful and preventive assessment, together with the subject's medical and family history, Dr. Lucca directs the patient to appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic paths in order not to waste time in treatment.
